The race for mayor in Zanesville is starting up already. Independent candidate Rick Lavy challenged incumbent mayor Jack Fenton and Republican candidate Dave Joseph to a series of debates. Lavy suggests the three get together since in past elections, no debates have been held. “I’d like to have a one on one debate to where we can face all the issues, tell the public exactly where we stand, what we want to accomplish in the next four years,” said Lavy. He said the issues in the upcoming election include low worker morale and increasing crime rates. Joseph also accepts the challenge, but believes the issues are public safety and economic development. As for the mayor, he is more than willing to participate as long as the site is neutral. “I have no problem anytime he’s willing to debate,” said Fenton. Lavy’s proposal suggests three debates before the November election, one in August, the next in September, and the final one in October.
