The city of Newark has a big weekend ahead. Before the Gus Macker basketball tournament begins on Saturday the second annual Hot Music Weekend starts tomorrow. Newark held three concerts last year to celebrate their bicentennial with Styx closing the festivities out. For a first try at something so big, organizers were extremely pleased with the results. “We asked the people right from the stage, ‘would you like to see this come back again this year?’ and there was an overwhelming roar back to me…yes. So we said you’ll have it,” said Frank Stare, mayor of Newark. The Supremes are the first of three free shows performing tomorrow at nine o’clock. Friday night is country night and Saturday night is rock night. Stare says last year over 80 thousand people came over the three nights. All three shows this year will take place in downtown Newark on West Main Street. Stare said many of the church lots downtown will be available for parking.
