A report ranks Ohio seventh in the country in exporting guns that end up in the hands of criminals in other states. The report by Americans for Gun Safety is based on data for 2001 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Jim Kessler of Americans for Gun Safety says gun shows allow firearm sales without background checks and that those guns end up in other states. The group blames weak gun laws for an “iron pipeline” of guns out of Ohio. But Joe Waldron, Executive Director of Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, says most illegal guns are obtained by qualified buyers who give them to those who are not permitted to buy guns. Waldron blames gun violence on America’s culture.
