A handful of 90-foot American flags covered the Y-bridge this afternoon. As part of the bicentennial celebration, hundreds of volunteers carried these enormous versions of Old Glory. Marc Valentine, the man in charge of the flags, said Zanesville is one of three communities these flags were going to, so it is very special. He orchestrated everyone carrying the flags to move around the bridge and wave them so tons of pictures could be taken. His main goal was to get members of the community involved. Putting the flags away also involved ceremony. Valentine said it’s tradition for the community to clap while they bring it in to instill their spirit in the flag.
