It could be the beginning of a new era at A-K Steel under its new management. Former Chief Executive Richard Wardrop Jr. and former president John Hritz both resigned last month. After years of clashing with labor unions and battling with environmentalist and regulators, A-K Steel’s interim Chief Executive Officer has opened lines of communications. James Wainstcott met with United Steelworkers union officials before they jointly announced an agreement to try to work out disputes lingering from last year’s worker lockout at the company’s Mansfield plant. Wainscott is an eight-year A-K Steel veteran who previously worked for National Steel.
