A former prisoner of war speaks at the VFW in Putnam. The district five POW/MIA ceremony and fall conference took place tonight. Post Commander Berney Harmon said it’s an annual event, meant to recognize those missing in action. He said they had a candlelight service and firing of a military squad. The keynote speaker, James Feerick was shot down from the Army Air Corps and taken prisoner by the Germans. He wanted to tell the audience his experience as a POW. He said they kept him without food for days and often threatened to shoot him. He was eventually taken to a prison camp before being rescued.
