The author of a book about a local hero signs copies of it at Ohio University Zanesville. The title, His Name was John. Ever since the death of football star John Sulsberger to cancer in the 1960s, his friend Michael Jackson wanted to preserve his memory. So he wrote a book about him. Jackson still remembers the first day they met at Zanesville High School. It was the first day of high school practice and Suslsberger had broken Jackson’s leg in the city championship game the past season. Sulsberger walked up to Jackson and apologized. Jackson said the book has brought about renewed interest in Sulsberger, the stadium and ZHS. But he had a different idea when writing it. He wanted to write about the character of a young man and make people think about their own children. Jackson named his son John in Sulsberger’s memory. His main message today was love your kids.
