As wildfire continue to rage in California, Ohio Forestry Officials are launching a program to help residents here protect themselves and their homes from similar blazes. The Firewise Ohio Program brings together local fire departments and citizens who live in forested areas to develop fire safety plans and teach homeowners about wildfire protection. In Ohio, wildfires usually burn down 4,000 to 6,000 acres a year. Forestry officials say they’ll use the program to provide risk assessment and safety advice to homeowners, and to promote the use of building and landscape techniques to minimize wildfire threats.
