The woman who claimed she lost the winning ticket in last week’s 162,000,000 Mega Millions jackpot now says she made it all up.
A crying Elecia Battle of Cleveland says she wanted to win so badly for her children and her family.
The 40-year-old says she’s sorry for what she did. Battle filed a police report saying she lost the ticket, possible when she dropped her purse outside a convenience store.
The State Lottery declared 34-year-old Rebecca Jemison of South Euclid as the winner.
Battle apologized to Jemison, her lawyer and her husband. She says she really isn’t a bad person.
Battle’s lawyer Sheldon Starke says he’ll file paperwork today to ask a court to dismiss a lawsuit Battle filed top stop payment to Jemison.
