United Way Kicks-Off Campaign
More than 160 people were on hand Tuesday morning for the official kick-off of the 2009-2010 campaign for the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties.

At the "Community Leader's Breakfast" in the Zanesville Welcome Center, campaign organizers announced their goal this year is 1.9 million. They are trying to raise $950,000 in contributions and 950,000 volunteer hours.

"We were looking to make this a bit of a stretch goal and also make and also recognize additional contributions of people. In addition to their money they can contribute their voice and their time and we need all three components to be successful and to make this community as strong as we can," says Meg Deedrick, United Way executive director.

Deedrick says although the campaign usually only takes place through December, it impacts what the United Way does all year long.

"It's how we partner with the community and so this is the community's vote, if you will, of the services that they want to provide. In these times it's easy to feel overwhelmed and it's easy to feel like an individual doesn't have much of an impact, but collectively we can do great things and that's what this campaign shows," she says.

The money raised will go to help support the United Way's partner agencies, as well as their Financial Stability Partnership and 211 programs.
