As the weather starts to turn cold, people will begin to reach into their pockets as heating bills arrive in the mailbox, and AEP Ohio wants to help those having trouble paying their heating bills, so people across the state in need won't be left out in the cold this year.

The Neighbor to Neighbor Ohio Utility Assistance Program officially started last may and has help over 55 hundred families with 1.5 million dollars in assistance.

"We were shocked. We were really shocked that we could have gone through a million and a half dollars in a short amount of time that we did. That just demonstrates that people are-the economy has hurt-and the people that have lost their jobs are needing assistance, " says Dollar Energy Fund Chief Operating Officer, Chad Quinn.

Quinn says the program has gotten off to a slower start in Southeastern Ohio, but he says AEP Ohio is making it easy if you do want to help out others.

"AEP Ohio is providing a check box on their utility bill. Customers can make a monthly donation by checking the box on you utility bill, " says Quinn.

He says you can also visit AEP Ohio's website and click on a link to the program.

Quinn says every dollar you put in, AEP Ohio matches that dollar to help bring in additional funding.

To apply for the program, you can pick up an application at Zanesville's Eastside Community Ministry or the Salvation Army.
