Music and applause could be heard coming from Roger's Auction Barn in Adamsville Sunday.
The 24th annual Muskingum County Music Hall of Fame Day celebrated Zanesville musicians with live performances and inducted three people in a surprise celebration.
"Arthur Danison and he is the only full fledged member going in and we have honorary members and these are people that, a lot of them are like wives of members, there are two honorary members being taken in today. Their names are Ottie Kirker, her husband Lloyd plays and Sarah Roby and her husband plays the harmonica and sings," says Phil Barnett the Muskingum County Music Hall of Fame publicity chairman.
To be a member of the Muskingum County Music Hall of Fame a musician must be a Zaneville resident and actively playing in local clubs for 15 years. Barnett says attendance has dropped over the years from around 700 people their first year to around 200 people Sunday. But he is still happy with Sunday's turnout.
"There are more older folks than there are younger, but it is a good place to come a good place to get together. We have a good time, they play music, they get a little loud in there once and a while, but you know the musicians like to hear themselves play and we let them play," tells Barnett.
Barnett says music is an important part of Zanesville's heritage and most of the musicians today play all acoustic instruments. Admission was donation based and the event also had a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and memorial for recently deceased members.
