Tails were wagging at the Animal Shelter in Muskingum County.
It welcomed the public this afternoon for an open house. Refreshments and several friendly animals were on hand to mingle with the crowd.
"We like to do this to invite the public out and to view our facility, see the animals that are available for adoption and find out some of the programs we have available and what we offer the community," says Larry Hostetler the Executive Director of the Animal Shelter.
Hostetler says around 20 animals get adopted from events like these, which helps the shelter since it is overcrowded with dogs and especially cats. Hostetler says the economy has taken a toll on household finances and many have had to give up their pets. But lovable animals like this ten week old boxer, shepard mix still need a home.
"He is probably going to get 40 to 50 pounds, so a bit on the larger side, but very sweet and active and will make a great pet for somebody," says Hostetler.
There are also older dogs like this female husky Mia available for adoption. Mia was rescued by the shelter from a neglectful home, but still has a happy and vivacious spirit. There is an adoption fee of $95 for any animal, but that includes spay and neuter, a doctor check up and license fees.
