Muskingum County seniors will have the opportunity to get help staying warm this winter.
The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is offering help to older folks in the area to fill out applications for the heating assistance program, or HEAP.
Supportive Services Director Debra Smith said the income requirement has gone up this year, allowing more people to use the program. She said it is now 200-percent of the poverty level.
"People have told me that they get $200 credit on their heating bill and that's great it's a good amount, especially now," said Smith.
Seniors can come into the center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon for assistance.
Smith said to bring your latest heating bill, electric bill and proof of income. The center will also be offering help with Medicare Part D.
"You just have to chose one that best suits your illnesses and medications," she said. "Some seniors have never had help with paying for medications. Some are on medications upwards of $700 a month or so. Sometimes they have to make decisions on whether they're going to buy food or their medications."
Smith says the center will hold a Medicare Check Up Day on Election Day, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m.
