Gifts for the Red Cross

Area men and women are donating their time and talent, all for a good cause.

It's all part of the holiday variety show called "The Gifts." This year the production is being put on by the City of Zanesville and Secrest Auditorium to benefit the Red Cross.

"It's always cool when somebody else comes up with a great idea," said Dan Hartman of the Muskingum Valley Red Cross. "In this case, the City of Zanesville and Secrest said, let's put a show on to support, not only the efforts of our Red Cross, but support those families."

Hartman says the Red Cross is struggling this year. The organization has overspent the disaster relief fund by $20,000, forcing them to borrow money from other places.

"This time of year, we always need money," he said. "We know we're going to have christmas fires. We know we're going to lose people's homes. It's nice to know that this is going to work and the money will be there for these families."

The show is this Saturday, December 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

The first 100 families to purchase their tickets will receive both a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector.
