Federal charges have been filed against the New Bakery Company  in Zanesville by its union members.

In a press release, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers International Union Local 57 says the company illegally implemented the terms of a proposed new contract for its workers on Tuesday.

New Bakery officials say contract negotiations had reached an impasse and therefore the company implemented the last and best offer on the table which included changes in health care  coverage but did offer a pay raise for employees.

The Union, which is made up of 150 members, has been working under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement that expired in march of this year.

Human Rescources Manager of New Bakery Scot Donaldson issued a press release saying that the company is aware of the charges but has not been provided a copy of the complaint.

He maintains the company attempted to meet with union members but they were unavailable and so New Bakery implemented their last and best offer.
