This holiday season if you plan on having a drink better plan on getting a ride home.
The Highway Patrol says they will be out targeting drunk drivers during the long Christmas and New Year's holiday season.
"Officers will be out in full force. At least two to three cars addition to the shift. Also during the night shift, during the hours where we do find impaired drivers," Lt. Chad Neal said from the Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Lt. Neal says drinking and driving is huge problem especially around the holidays and typically between Thanksgiving and Christmas we arrest more drunk drivers than on New Years.
He also says obviously drinking impairs your judgement and your ability to drive.
"Drunk drivers is a problem because that is a contributing factor to a lot of crashes and a drunk diver can kill," Ltd. Neal said.
Ltd. Neal has some advice...If you plan to drink...Find a designated driver.
"We don't need anyone on the road that's impaired and that can cause a danger for themselves or anyone else," Ltd. Neal said.
The Highway Patrol increases patrols during the holiday's looking for drunk drivers.
