Champagne For New Year's Eve

A champagne toast at midnight is tradition on New Year's Eve, but if you don't want to break the bank there are several types of bubbly at an affordable price.

Mike Alfman, owner of the Winerak, off Maple Avenue in Zanesville says he sells champagne starting at a price of $5.99 all the way up to the high end brands.

"We have Cristal which runs $299 dollars a bottle and we also have a gold dip bottle by the name of Armon which runs, I believe, somewhere around $350 so there is a wide variety of tastes and choices on champagne," says Alfman.

His best selling champagne under $20 dollars is Corbel.  If you feel like splurging a little to celebrate the new year there are a lot of things that go into the more high end champagnes such as the consistency and history of the brand.

"Also that it comes from France in order to be labeled a champagne it actually has to be sourced from Champagne, France which is a region in France, like Asti is a region in Italy, Champagne is a region in France" tells Sales Advisor for the Winerak, Stephanie Bambenek.

For those who don't drink alcohol or are acting as the designated driver there are also non-alcoholic options.

"Sparkling bubbly for someone who doesn't want the alcohol in the product, we have that too and that runs around $5 a bottle," says Alfman.

Alfman says he strongly recommends people buy their alcohol Wednesday night because there will be heavy lines on New Year's Eve. The Winerak is open til 9 pm Wednesday night and New Year's Eve it is open from 9 am til 8 pm.
