If you plan on drinking to welcome in the new year, local law enforcement agencies are asking that you don't drive.

They say your better option is either staying where you're at and spending the night or finding a designated driver to take you home.

"Anytime you get into a celebration, you're always going to have people that take it a little bit too far. We won't people to have a very happy new year, but we want everybody to be safe, " says Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz.

The Zanesville Police Department and Muskingum County Sheriff's Office will have more cruisers on the roads. ZPD Sergeant Chris Phipps says the bar scenes on Maple and Linden Avenues will be highly patrolled, but both say OVI's really haven't been a problem this holiday season.

"They have not seemed to have increased in number as far as we can determine, but those things come and go in waves, " says Phipps.

Both agencies also added that they will not be setting up any OVI checkpoints New Year's Eve.
