The snow keeps coming, and that means more of us will break out those shovels to clear sidewalks and driveways.
Yet, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department says you need to be careful out in the snow.
"It's cold. So, it's taking more energy for your body to maintain your body temperature. Therefore, that's stressful on your heart. For these people that have heart problems, they need to be very careful not to exceed their abilities, and if they do have to shovel snow, do it in little bitty increments and go back in to rest, " says Dr. Vicki Whitacre.
Whitacre says shoveling in increments is important because snow can get heavy if you lift too much.
"If you are using your back to lift more than your using your arms, then you can hurt your back. You need to listen. If you feel something pull in your back, you need to quit, " says Whitacre.
The snow can also cause some slick spots outside. Whitacre says you need to be careful not to slip because it can cause major fractures to the body.
