AEP has given the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties a grant of more than $15,000.
The company based the grant amount on the number of AEP customers in the three counties.
The money will be used to help AEP customers in the area who are one month behind rent or mortgage payments.
"Folks are really having problems just keeping up with their rent or their mortgage and either possibly maybe they've lost a job or their not getting as much money in per month, maybe their hours have been cut,but we have had a lot of calls already," says Audrey Foster, Southeast Ohio 211 Call Center Manager.
Assistance is also available in the form of a gas voucher for those who need to travel to out-of-town doctor's appointments.
To learn more about the program people should just dial 211. You can also call 454-2255.
"They will get to talk to an information and referral specialist here who will go through the whole application with them and tell them what items they need to bring in and to see if they do in fact qualify to receive the monies," she says.
In order to qualify, a person has to be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The program will continue until the grant money has all been distributed.
