Before they can light up the bright lights on Broadway, local children are stealing the stage here at home.
Tryouts for Powerhouse's "Seussical The Musical" began Saturday for children K-12. For the auditions, children need to bring a smile, enthusiasm and a little something extra.
"I ask that students come prepared to learn a small dance or movement combination, or also they should prepare 30 seconds of a song that best showcases their voice, hopefully from another Broadway musical, but Disney songs are ok because this is a children's theater production," says artistic director Denise Duellman-LaCara.
LaCara says she is very considerate of the children's feelings during auditions so first-timers do not need to be nervous. Cade Heskett is one of the many auditioning and he has years of experience being in musicals and plays. He says being in a musical is a great experience.
"It is great just to be the center of attention, if you are that kind of person and even if you are an extra or things like that, it is just great to know people are paying attention to you and they are here just for you, it is a really great feeling," says Heskett.
The next audition for "Seussical The Musical" is Monday from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the John McIntyre Library auditorium. Powerhouse's "Seussical The Musical" will perform March 25th-29th. LaCara says to buy tickets early because she expects the performances to sell out.
