It's dangerously cold outside and if you're not careful it could be a health hazard.
Julie Davis from the Muskingum Valley Red Cross says when the weather is cold make sure you are bundled up and the kids are too. She says the best way to dress when it's this cold is in layers and to always make sure the kids have warm socks, a hat, gloves, and their coat is zipped up.
"Kids who have to wait on the bus in this kind of weather is scary cause we can bundle our kids up as much as we want but as soon as they are out of sight they kind of do what they want. We need to make them understand that they can get hurt and not really realize it," Julie Davis from the Muskingum Valley Red Cross Director said.
She says everyone needs to especially protect your body parts that are more prone to getting frostbite like your ears your nose your toes your fingers
"You need to make sure you have a hat on that covers your ears plus you lose a lot of heat out of your head and having a hat on will help you to conserve body heat," Davis said.
She said it's always good to warm up from the inside out but despite popular belief alcohol will not keep you warm. Davis told WHIZ that it's one of the worst things you can drink because it can drop your body temperature if you have too much. A warm drink that doesn't have caffeine is good to help keep you warm. Caffeine is bad because it's a stimulant and can make your heartbeat too fast and it a cold situation that's not good.
She said make sure the drink's warm and not hot because you don't want to change your body temperature up too fast because that can cause cardiac arrest.
