Ohio University is reporting its second probable case of bacterial meningitis in a month.
The incident involves a first-year student who lives in one of the residence halls. She is receiving treatment at a Columbus hospital.
A press release indicates that university does not believe this case is linked to another probable case of bacterial meningitis that the university acknowledged last week.
The university's student health staff plans to administer antibiotics to students who may have been in close contact with the first-year student.
Bacterial meningitis can be deadly if not treated.
