Muskingum County township employees are one step closer to joining their own healthcare plan.
Today the commissioners hosted a presentation proposing possible healthcare policies and benefits for township trustees, employees and mayors, which are not currently on the county's plan.
"Healthcare trends keep going up," said Brian Fargus of Medical Benefits Administrators. "It's a big thing here in the news and with the president. We're just trying to find ways for even the smaller entities like these townships to come together and see if we can find a way to save them money."
Commissioner John Bates said insurance is a hot topic for employees within the townships.
"It could become a reality," he said. "If we can get enough interest from people. We've had a good turnout today. There is a lot of interest, so hopefully we can get something done that's positive."
Today's presentation is just the first step to possibly getting a group plan for township employees.
Bates said the plan will be separate from the county's plan.
