The dream of an event center in downtown Zanesville is alive once again.
Today Mayor Howard Zwelling told members of the Zanesville Community Improvement Corporation Board that developers are interested in working with the city to make Potter's Alley a reality.
"I think it's a sign that the economy is turning around and that the developers and contractors, who have done very little in the past year or two are looking around now and looking for a project," said Mayor Howard Zwelling. "I think Zanesville presents the perfect place for them to start a project."
Director of the Muskingum County Convention Facilities Authority Vicki LeVeck held a meeting with potential developers last week and will hold another one tomorrow.
Mayor Zwelling says they are entertaining the idea of an addition to Secrest Auditorium.
"We're talking about using it as the anchor for Potter's Alley," said Zwelling. "Vicki has had a meeting and she's having another one to entice developers in here to explain the project to them and I'm optimistic that something good is going to come of it."
Mayor Zwelling says he is cautiously optimistic about the project.
He says if it does become a reality, he believes developers will move the project through quickly in the next five years.
