Fire investigators say the cause of a fire that killed a Heath three-year-old will remain undetermined.
However, according to Shane Cartmill with State Fire Marshal's Office, they cannot rule out a child playing with a lighter as the possible cause of the fire that killed Brenden Fown.
The fire at 152 Irving Wick Drive on February 11, 2010 started in a bedroom on the eastside of the trailer home.
Investigators say smoke detectors were in the home, but none were found to be functional.
Interim State Fire Marshal Donald Cooper says the tragedy should serve as a warning to adults to teach children the dangers of fire and keep lighters and matches out of their reach. He also says every home needs to be equipped with working smoke detectors.
After their investigation authorities determined they will not be filing any charges.
Every fire department in Licking County has a smoke detector program. Heath residents can call the Heath Fire Department for(740) 522-4585 for assistance with smoke detectors.
