Locals woke up early this morning for a tasty breakfast to help the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.
For only $5 at Applebees on Maple Avenue Saturday, residents enjoyed all you can eat pancakes with all the profits going to help the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.
"It goes right to our disaster relief fun. With the flooding and everything that we think may be imminent and Morgan County and Muskingum County, we never know and of course our house fires, we have to know that that money is always there for those people," says Marlene Henderson with the Muskingum Valley Red Cross.
Henderson says the disaster relief fund is always low so it is important they do everything they can to replenish it. Last year the Muskingum Valley Red Cross helped 176 adults and 142 children after home fires. As residents enjoyed their breakfast, red cross volunteers also gave free batteries out so residents remember to change their smoke detector batteries.
"So when you change your clock, change the batteries in your smoke detectors and make sure they are working. Just in case you ever, god forbid, have that house fire make sure that smoke detector is working so everybody can get out of the house," says Henderson.
The Muskingum Valley Red Cross also responded to 80 disasters last year.
