An afternoon fire destroyed a New Lexington garage and injured one firefighter.
The pull out garage off Township Road 162A caught fire just after 2:00 p.m.
"We had the garage, flames coming out of the roof, half of it caved in and the woods were on fire," says Dyrall Newman the Battalion Chief with the Crooksville Fire Department.
The garage is a total loss and one fire fighter suffered first degree burns. Battalion Chief Newman says the biggest problem was dealing with the heat. With temperatures around 76 degrees Sunday afternoon, EMS workers kept a close eye on firefighters to make sure they didn't overheat. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but Newman says the hot, dry weather did play a part in the spreading of the fire. Fire crews from Crooksville, Somerset-Reading Township, Roseville, New Lexington and Junction City were all called in to fight the fire.
