Residents were walking in circles Saturday morning for a good cause.
Cancer touches the life of almost everyone, so Saturday cancer survivors and supporters walked the track at the Franklin Local Track Complex to raise money for a cure. The day started off with a lap for survivors.
"It is just frightening how many people have had it, but it is exciting and I think it is good for people going through cancer right now to see this many survivors who have been healthy for 10, 20, 30 years," says LuAnn Gatewood, the event organizer.
Gatewood says she was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago and if she reaches her goal of five thousand dollars from Relay for Life, then she will have raised $20,000 in 5 years for cancer research. She says she is especially happy to see young people and students walking in relay for life.
"I'm an advocate of pay it forward, if you do one good thing it will blossom and I hope that our kids learn that too," says Gatewood.
