Local drivers are aware of the headaches along Maple Avenue in Zanesville.
So, the Ohio Department of Transportation is teaming up with city officials to make the road less hectic and safer.
"It's one of the worst roads as far as traffic accidents in the state of Ohio. So, something has to be done, " says ODOT Deputy Director Karl Newman.
There have been more than 70 accidents along Maple Avenue over the past three years. A 2007 study indicated some of the problem areas that both entities hope to take care of.
"We are trying to come up with alignments that we are going to do to make a safer road at the intersection. It's basically at the intersection of Bethesda Drive and Balls Lane area, " says Zanesville City Engineer, Chip Saunders.
It's known as Phase II of the Maple Avenue project. Phase I improvements were completed last summer.
With the help of the city, ODOT has formulated three potential plans, one of which will be chosen. An open house meeting was held at City Hall this afternoon to get feedback from the public about these plans.
