Summer Grilling

Most people are tired of cooking indoors and ready for hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.

Whether you plan on using propane or charcoal, the Zanesville Fire Department wants to remind everyone of a few safety measures.

"You keep that away from combustible material, and it's recommended at least 10 feet away from housing, things like that, so, you don't end up igniting a house or structure on fire when you're in the cooking process, " says Fire Chief, Dave Lacy.

You are also going to want to place your grill in an outdoor space.

"Propane or charcoal-either one-will put off carbon monoxide gas. So, you never really want to use one of those in an enclosed area like a porch, garage, or storage building, " says Lacy.

Before lighting the fire, you need to check over all parts of your grill. That includes the burners to see if they need replaced or a propane hose connection to make sure there aren't any leaks.Whether you plan on using propane or charcoal, the Zanesville Fire Department wants to remind everyone of a few safety measures.
