Students on Mock Crash

One day before Crooksville High School's prom, students saw what they didn't want their prom experience to turn into.

With the aid of the Crooksville and Roseville fire and EMS departments and Med-flight, the school put on a mock crash, showing what could happen if they mix drinking and driving.

"There's a lot of people in our town that drink and drive hopefully this will convince them not to do this anymore because it's not cool," said Crooksville High School 10th grader and volunteer Elizabeth White.

Several students acted the parts of those injured or killed by the two-car head on accident. According to Crooksville EMS Chief Ralph Hill, accidents like the one portrayed today are 25-percent of the calls they receive.

"We've had many accidents here in the community the past few years, with a result of fatalities," said Hill. "Some of that was caused from drinking and driving."

Hill said the fire and EMS crews decided to put the mock crash as a part of educating the community.

The crash is the first one in 11 years.
