Council Donates

Zanesville City Council is doing its part to help a local event honoring soldiers.

Councilmembers voted to pass an ordinance that would donate 500 dollars to the "Flags of Honor" event being held at Zane Landing Park this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

"Even though times are hard and the budget is where it's at, we can't shut down the city. Things need to happen. It's one of the things we felt needed to happen, " says Councilman Jeff Tilton.

"The last soldier we lost was the 28th of March of this year, so we're still losing them. So, why not honor them? " says event coordinator Bud Johnson.

Johnson says it helps families who has lost loved ones in combat have some sense of closure.

Councilmembers accepted two recommendations from Mayor Howard Zwelling. Zwelling had asked for the re-appointment of Jim Geyer as a Design Review Board member through 2014 and Brad Stubbs as a Planning Commission member through 2016.
