The first annual Smile Mile and 5K run was held today to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and was held in the memory of a very special girl.
Ashley Cordial died two years ago. As a tribute to her friend, Madeline Mason organized the event to raise money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
"I've been giving back to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for about two years, ever since Ashley Cordial died. The day she died, I kind of made a vow to myself that I was going to help," says Mason.
The race started at 8:30 this morning, and finished up with an award-ceremony and a raffle held at the Smile Shack who sponsored the event.
Mason says, "Well I feel like Ashley has done so much for me because I feel like a better person knowing her so this is probably the least I could ever do for her."
Mason says that for next year, the planning will start earlier.
