When the last bell rings to say school's out for summer, it doesn't mean that kids should say goodbye to their books.
The Muskingum County Library System is kicking off their Summer reading program, which promotes reading, but makes it fun by rewarding kids for participating.
"The program will run the week of June 14th through July 24th and they can register at any of the six libraries in Muskingum County. You set your reading goal as you read books you earn incentives donated by area businesses and when you reach your goal, you receive a free book from the friends of the library," says the Library Manager of Customer Service and Public Relations Blair Tom.
There are also optional weekly programs that make it easy to fit the program into busy Summer schedules.
"The important thing is to keep children and teens reading during the Summer. Studies indicated that children that don't read during the Summer can lose up to one grade level, reading level when they return to school in the Fall so we want it to be read for fun, but we think it's really important to keep them reading during the Summer "
There is also a reading program for adults. To register for the program you can go to any one of the six Muskingum County Libraries.
