Tucked away in Cambridge is a glass museum celebrating its 30th birthday.
In an effort to keep alive the tradition of Degenhart Crystal Art Glass, the First Lady of Glass as she was fondly known, Elizabeth Degenhart, established the Paperweight and Glass Museum 30 years ago.
"She wanted a museum of the glass that she had manufactured, she and her husband. And then also of her collection because she had glass from everywhere," says Secretary of the Executive Board for the museum, Mary Jackson.
The museum features glass manufactured by Degenhart as well as glass from surrounding states. They also have a gift shop where customers can buy original pieces, as well as pieces from around the area. Saturday, the museum offered free tours, discounted items, as well as door prizes to celebrate the anniversary.
"It's just really great and what we're trying to do is to still keep Degenhart alive in the minds of the community and the surrounding area," says Jackson.
The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 10a.m. to 4p.m.
