Construction in Licking County is going to impact some drivers' commutes.
A $2.1 million project starts tomorrow in Newark. Crews will focus their efforts on the State Route 16 and 21st Street Interchange. The Ohio Department of Transportation says to accommodate traffic, it will be widening the east and westbound ramps and making adjustments to the 21st Street turning lane. The project will last through the end of November.
ODOT says it's looking to improve safety on the State Route 37/York Road Interchange. So, it is temporarily closing the eastbound entrance and exit ramps. Both should be fully operational by Thursday. Detours are posted, and crews will be working along Interstate 70, 2 miles east of Ohio 79, to replace culvert lining. They will be out there during the week from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. ODOT District 5 Public Information Officer, Kate Stickle, says traffic won't be affected because the construction will be contained to the shoulder. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.
