A Licking County man receives serious injuries following an early morning accident.

It happened just after 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Brownsville and Bushy Fork roads.

The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol says 26-year-old Nicholas Willis of Heath went off the right side of the road and struck a pole, which overturned the vehicle into a tree. It took crews more than an hour to extricate him from the car because of the possibility of live wires on the ground. AEP was called to the scene to fix the power pole.

Willis was taken by MedFlight to OSU Medical Center in Columbus with what dispatchers are calling serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Dispatchers say it's likely Willis will be cited, but the accident remains under investigation.
