Zanesville City Council members are expected to vote on a re-zoning issue Monday night. It's an issue that's been going on for a year now, ever since Ryan Dodson of American Pride purchased the old YMCA property on McIntire Avenue back in July of 2009. Dodson wants to move his business to the site, but the property needs to be re-zoned from a residential lot to a commercial one.
Neighbors, on both sides of the issue, in that ward say they're just tired of hearing about it.
"It's been in the news so much, we'd just like to see them re-zone it and move on," says Zanesville resident Tony Wilson.
"I think it's taken too long to settle this, and they've approached it the wrong way, " says Zanesville resident Mike Anderson.
The Wilsons and Anderson say they're afraid council members won't vote the way their ward wants them to.
"I think they're just kind of voting their own way. They talk about wanting to put a park there. There's no funding for that. No one came to us with any ideas on how that would happen or who would pay for it, " says Wilson.
"I don't think anybody is going to be happy either way, but I think sometimes the politicians run over people who don't have a voice, " says Anderson.
Wilson says he wants the property re-zoned to a commercial lot so it will help a local business keep money and jobs coming into the city, but Anderson says he wants the property to remain a residential lot to keep the historical aspect of the neighborhood in check.
