Some drivers are not paying attention to the road closed signs posted along State Route 93.
The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says it has been patrolling the area with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and has already made 11 contacts with drivers, resulting in four warnings, seven citations for driving on a closed roadway, and two crashes where nearby properties were damaged.
"A majority of it is tractor trailer drivers trying to get to the business parks and just disregarding the detour signs, " says Zanesville Post Commander, Lt. Steven Rine.
WHIZ tried to speak with one of the residents, who wasn't home, and the other piece of property is farmland. To keep vehicles from backing onto their property, the owners put bails of hay alongside the road. Lt. Rine says there's no reason for drivers not to understand that the road closure exists.
"It's clearly marked. Myself and Sheriff Lutz checked all the signs. We took a day out. He took the east side, and I took the west side. We checked all signage on the interstate and as you exit there for the 157 for Adamsville Road, " says Lt. Rine.
Lt. Rine says the issue is frustrating because it takes his troopers away from more important calls that could potentially be serious.
