Donating blood now comes with a meal, with a the help of one local organization.
The Carr Center at 1035 Beverely Avenue is giving away free lunch to anyone who donates blood. The adult daycare program wanted to give back to the community for being so generous during the cake auction.
"They chose the red cross because the red cross just reaches out in so many different directions and that's something that they could do that wouldn't be for just one organization., they help in so many ways," said Joann Boyd, Activity Director at the Carr Center.
The group also presented handmade blankets to the red cross.
"They made those to give to little children who had suffered a loss of their home due fire so they could have something warm and snuggily at night in a scary time and feel a little bit safer," said Boyd.
Boyd challenges others to make blankets to donate, she says they're easy to make and go towards a great cause.
