With school only weeks away, one local organization is asking children to be safe.
The Muskingum County Red Cross says that following a few safety tips will help keep your child out of harm's way. Officials say many kids are still in summer mode and may forget simple rules.
"They're not being as observant as they should be and we're the big people here so we need to watch out for the little people," said Director of Health and Safety, Julie Davis.
The Red Cross says that children should wear their helmets when riding a bike, using a safe route when walking to school, and to wear a comfortable fitting backpack.
"We just kind of like to remind the parents every year, it's just a common sense approach, the schools have information packets that they send home to the families, but we just like to kind of remind everyone hey it's back to school time, let's be safe," said Davis.
The Red Cross also offers a class called, "Masters of Disasters", which teaches children how to take precautionary steps in the case of an emergency.
