A semi accident and hazardous spill shuts down part of interstate 70 Westbound Wednesday morning.
It happened around 4:00 a.m.just before the Airport Road exit.
According to authorities a semi went off the highway and landed on its side and starting leaking liquid asphalt.
"It's a small spill. We've got in contained in really tight area so it'll be fairly quick. I mean, it's a long process, hazardous materials is always slow and takes time because there is so much involved it. It'll take a couple hours until they get it cleaned up," Perry Township Assistant Fire Chief Josh Robinson said.
Crews had the highway down to one lane most of the morning then had to close it completely around 10 a.m. to get the semi upright and off the road.
The highway is back to having one lane closed while the Muskingum County Hazardous Material Team cleans up the spill.
The Zanesville Highway Patrol says the driver of the truck is 53-year-old Gene Gill of Duncan Falls. He was cited by the Patrol for operating a vehicle without reasonable control. Gill was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
The accident remains under investigation.
