Keeping Warm

The deadline is fast approaching if your child needs a coat for the upcoming winter season.

Parents have until Thursday to register for the Salvation Army's Coats for Kids event. The staff need to take down the child's name and coat size so it can go shopping for the outerwear next week. Then the parents will bring their kids in next Thursday to pick-up their coats.

"The kids are so happy. They get a new coat. Sometimes it's the first time they even get a new coat, and they're so excited, " says event coordinator, Joyce Krouscouph.

If you don't register in time, the Salvation Army says those kids can come in next Friday and sift through the leftover coats.

Krouscouph says she considers a coat a necessity that all kids need.

"...especially when they go to school, and they're freezing. If you're cold, it's so hard to get warm and to concentrate. So, I think it's great when a child can be warm, " says Krouscouph.

Parents will also be allowed to sift through some gently used coats on Friday. The staff is reminding parents to bring in their kids' ID and Social Security card to the event.
