Some roadways in Muskingum County are getting a makeover thanks to Community Development Block Grant money.
The Muskingum County commissioners accepted opening bids for three paving projects. The first will pave a 4,500 square-foot portion of the Dewey Street Sidewalk in Jefferson Township. The others pave streets in Dresden and in Adams Mills. The grant money is very helpful.
"What it does is it helps the communities around that they don't have to come up with some money. Maybe they have a little bit and then this will be put toward it to help get a major project done in their community," says Muskingum County Commissioner, John Bates.
Each township can apply for the grant money at the beginning of the year. The projects are then chosen by commissioners, and bids accepted for the jobs.
"We award it this time of year, and hopefully they'll be done by the end of the year," says Commissioner Bates.
Commissioner Bates says that Monday's bids will be taken under advisement, and awarded by next Monday.
