Election day is around the corner.
WHIZ News spoke with two of the three candidates vying for a seat on Ohio's 5th District Court of Appeals. Democrat Kristine Beard says her practical experience in the courtroom and fresh enthusiasm make her more than qualified for the position.
"I have 21 years as a practicing attorney, I've spent closeat least to four almost five years as a staff counsel in the 5th district court of appeals, I've spent 7 years almost 8 years as a practicing attorney in a private practice," said Beard.
Beard also worked for 11 years as a prosecuting attorney for sexually and physically abused children. Republican incumbent Judge Julie Edwards, who is running for her third term, says she has the proven ability to do the job.
"Neither of my opponents have any judicial experience, neither have ever served as judges, I have over 20 years of judicial experience both at the common pleas court level and the court of appeals level," said Edwards.
Edwards says she comes highly recommended by the Stark County Bar Association, which is the largest county in our 15 county district.
Libertarian candidate Brent Vollmer was not present at the candidates forum.
