Republican James Porter wins the battle for Muskingum County Commissioner against Democrat John Bates.
Porter says he spent the night thanking his supporters at the Victory Center before awaiting election results at Bryan's Place in downtown Zanesville.
"I'm thrilled to death. I'm tickled to death it's finally over but words can't express how I feel right now, says Porter. "I love this community. I have two kids. I want them to be able to have a family here and get a job and be prosperous and I just love this community."
Porter has spent 18 years as a Perry Township trustee. He says his plans as county commissioner involve creating jobs.
"If you want people to live here in Muskingum County, they have to have a place to work, and Perry Township, we're no strangers at creating jobs and we did it as a team. A team effort. Got all those jobs in Perry Township and I'm looking forward to doing the same in Muskingum County," says Porter.
Porter won with 14,744 votes to Bates' 10,806 votes.
