After a successful career, a renowned clothing store in Zanesville is going out in style.
The recipe for this business' success is all about relationships.
"All your relationships and the people you come in contact with," says Larry Wade, owner of Wade's Clothing.
After a stunning 36 years, Larry Wade has decided to close the retail chapter of his career being Wade's Clothing. Now, it's a time to reminisce.
"The longer you go, then you start going back in memories, and your memory bank, and what has gone on in the last 36 years. The people that have shopped here and their friends, and the acquaintances we've gotten has been unbelievable."
The business opened in 1974 at a time when Wade said he was warned that starting a business was not a good idea, but Wade's thrived.
"Didn't know anything about a recession. We had a great opening year, and just kept going after that."
And go it did. 110,000 tuxedo rentals, and 25,000 suit sales later, Wade's has experienced much success through the years, that Wade and his employees attribute to building relationships.
"Young people come up, it's very important part of their life when they get their first tux to go to the prom. It's our first real chance to get them in here treat them right. The next thing is when they get married, a big event in their life, get another tux. They're going to come back and be customers for life," says Wade.
"When they come in through their good times and their bad times, when they're getting a suit for something besides a wedding or something. It's just the people" says Bruce Barclay, Wade's Clothing employee.
As a bid farewell, Wade's is holding a retirement sale.
"We've touched every piece of merchandise in the store," says Barclay.
Starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. Wade's will have special hours. Those special hours run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, Wade's will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the store will resume regular business hours the following week.
