First Friday Artwalk

Z.A.A.P. Art Gallery is displaying a husband-wife duo as this month's featured artists.

Jaye Hayes doesn't call himself an artist. Instead he says what he does is a hobby, one he's been doing for 40 years.

"I liked drawing as a young fella. And when I was about 19 my dad got a leather kit and I found it was a really interesting medium so I developed my own style," says Hayes.

He says he is inspired by architecture, and people working with their hands. His wife, Melodie is a digital photographer who snaps shots of places she has traveled, nature, and the home they live in, which was the home of a famed American illustrator.

"We live in an interesting place. An old estate that was owned by Howard Chandler Christy. So the grounds are a big feature of hers as well," says Hayes.

First Friday will take place tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. Z.A.A.P. Art Gallery will present one local artist with the Rona Bucci/Dr. Charles Deitz Award at 7 p.m.

Gary Graham will be the featured artist of the month in the Masonic Temple Building on Fourth Street. Doors open at 6 p.m.
